A note on Vietnamese TESOL degrees
A Vietnamese university TESOL or English Education degree (e.g. from HCMC University of Education) includes pedagogy training and confers a MOET teaching license upon graduation. This teaching license is the legal right to teach in Vietnam — it is not counted as a teaching certification under this framework.
The degree itself already scores under Academic degrees as a relevant field. A CELTA, DELTA, or other internationally accredited certification held in addition to the degree scores separately — it represents additional internationally recognized training, not a duplicate of the degree.

ARLTS does not authenticate credentials. Scores are based on teacher-submitted information. Where documentary evidence has been received, this is indicated on the profile.
ARLTS is a directory. What happens between teachers, students, and employers is direct — between them. That directness is intentional. Here is how to make it work well, from each perspective.
Your relationship with a teacher is personal. These guidelines help you start it on solid ground.
Check the credentials yourself
An ARLTS score reflects what a teacher has reported. Where you see an Evidence submitted badge, it means ARLTS received documents — not that we authenticated them. Ask to see original certificates at or before your first meeting. A confident, qualified teacher will not hesitate.
Start with one lesson
Before committing to a package or long-term arrangement, take one lesson first. Teaching style, communication, and lesson structure vary widely — a score tells you about qualifications, not chemistry. Use a trial lesson if one is offered.
Choose safe meeting locations
For in-person lessons, meet in public first — a café, library, or coworking space. A short initial meeting in a neutral space is reasonable to request and professional teachers will understand why.
Agree on terms upfront
Confirm the fee, lesson length, cancellation policy, and format in writing — even a WhatsApp message — before the first paid lesson. Ambiguity about money is the most common source of disputes.
Avoid large upfront payments
Pay for individual lessons or small packages until you have established trust. Prepaying for a semester of lessons with someone you have never met is a financial risk ARLTS cannot protect you from.
If you believe a listing is fraudulent, contact report@arlts.io.vn. ARLTS does not mediate financial disputes — if one arises, contact the relevant consumer protection authority in Vietnam.
You have two kinds of relationships to manage: with students who contact you, and with employers who may hire you. Both require clarity.
With students
Set your terms clearly
State your cancellation policy, rescheduling terms, and payment expectations before the first lesson — not after a dispute arises. A short written summary sent before the first session protects you and signals professionalism.
Keep communication professional
Use a dedicated channel for student enquiries rather than your personal number where possible. This creates a boundary, helps you manage multiple students, and keeps a record of all communications.
First meetings in neutral spaces
If a student requests a lesson at their home, consider meeting in a public space first. This is standard professional practice and protects you against misunderstandings about the nature of the arrangement.
List accurately
Your ARLTS profile is a public document. Listing a qualification you do not hold — even informally, even partially — is grounds for removal and may have wider professional consequences.
With employers
Your profile is your CV
Employers searching ARLTS are looking at your score, certification, degree, and format availability — the same information students see. Make sure every field is accurate and up to date. An employer may contact you based on your profile before they ever see a traditional CV.
Clarify the scope before agreeing
Corporate and institutional roles often involve group classes, fixed schedules, reporting requirements, or curriculum constraints. Clarify these before agreeing to anything. A language center position is not the same as private tutoring — make sure the arrangement fits your working style.
Get the terms in writing
Whether it is a freelance contract or a salaried role, confirm compensation, hours, notice period, and any exclusivity clauses in writing before you start. ARLTS cannot assist with employment disputes — protect yourself before the engagement begins.
ARLTS gives you access to a credentialed teacher database. Here is how to use it responsibly and effectively.
The score is a starting point, not a hiring decision
An ARLTS score reflects academic credentials — degree level, teaching certification, proficiency score, and years of experience. It does not measure classroom performance, cultural fit, or ability to work with specific student types. Use it to create a shortlist, then conduct your own interview and trial session.
Verify credentials independently
ARLTS does not authenticate qualifications. For hiring purposes, request original certificates and verify directly with the issuing institution where the role requires it. The Evidence submitted badge means documents were received by ARLTS — it is not an authentication.
Be clear about what the role involves
When you contact a teacher, state the role clearly — group or individual, fixed or flexible schedule, student age range, curriculum requirements, compensation structure. Vague enquiries waste time for both parties and reduce the chance of a good match.
Put the terms in writing
Whether freelance or employed, confirm pay rate, hours, cancellation terms, and any exclusivity clause in a written agreement before the engagement starts. ARLTS does not mediate employer-teacher disputes.
To report a fraudulent listing, contact report@arlts.io.vn.
About ARLTS
Academic Rankings of Language Teachers · Ho Chi Minh City
Pronounced orals — as in oral examination.
Ho Chi Minh City has thousands of English teachers. It has no reliable way to tell them apart.
Credentials get inflated. Certificates get misrepresented. Students ask friends, get a name, pay upfront, and hope for the best. Meanwhile, the teachers who spent years earning real qualifications — a DELTA, a Master's in Linguistics, an IELTS 8.5 — have no way to make that visible. They compete on the same word-of-mouth market as everyone else.
ARLTS exists because that situation is fixable.
The fix is not a rating system. Star ratings reflect student satisfaction, not teacher competence, and they can be gamed. The fix is not a marketplace. Marketplaces have commercial incentives that distort what gets shown and to whom.
The fix is a published framework — a set of criteria, applied consistently, that translates academic credentials into a score anyone can read and verify. ARLTS lists teachers who meet a minimum professional English proficiency threshold and ranks them by what they have actually studied and earned. The criteria are on this site. The points are on every profile. There is nothing hidden.
What ARLTS is not
ARLTS does not authenticate credentials. Scores are based on teacher-submitted information. Where documentary evidence has been received, this is indicated on the profile.
ARLTS does not sit between teachers and students. No commission. No booking system. No mediation. A student finds a teacher, contacts them directly, and whatever happens next is between them.
ARLTS is not for every English teacher in Ho Chi Minh City. It is for the ones who have invested seriously in their qualifications and want that investment to be visible to the students who are looking for exactly that.
ARLTS serves language centers and employers hiring in HCMC. The same credential framework that helps students choose helps organizations recruit.
ARLTS was founded by a small team in Ho Chi Minh City. The academic framework was developed with input from working teachers and test preparation specialists across the city.
The ARLTS mark is an asterisk. In academic and editorial writing, an asterisk means see note below — a signal that more information exists, that something requires closer reading. That is precisely what ARLTS does: it points to the evidence behind a teacher's profile and asks you to look more carefully than you otherwise would.
Scores reflect information submitted directly by teachers. ARLTS does not independently verify qualifications. If you have evidence that a listing is inaccurate or fraudulent, contact report@arlts.io.vn.

Frequently asked questions
Questions from teachers and students. If yours isn't here, contact hello@arlts.io.vn.
For students
Is it really free to search?+
Yes. Students search, filter, and contact teachers at no cost. ARLTS does not charge students and does not take a commission from lessons.
What does a score of 14 mean?+
Most listed teachers score between 10 and 17. A score of 14 sits in the mid-to-upper range — typically a relevant Bachelor's, a CELTA, a strong proficiency score, and several years of experience. Use the score as a starting point, not a verdict.
Can I trust the "Evidence submitted" badge?+
It means ARLTS received scanned documents from the teacher — not that ARLTS authenticated them. The badge signals transparency. Always ask to see originals at your first meeting.
What if a teacher's qualifications are fake?+
Report them to report@arlts.io.vn with any evidence you have. ARLTS will review and act where evidence is sufficient.
Does ARLTS handle payments or disputes?+
No. ARLTS is a directory. All financial arrangements and disputes are between you and the teacher directly.
For teachers
Can I list without a degree?+
Yes, but you must still meet the minimum English proficiency threshold. Teachers with a certification but no degree receive 0.5 points in the degree pillar.
What counts as a native English speaker?+
Someone who grew up speaking English as their primary language in an English-speaking country, documentable by passport. This scores 3 points in the proficiency pillar.
How long until my profile goes live?+
Payment instructions are sent within 24 hours. Once payment is confirmed, your profile is published within 1 business day. Total: typically 2–3 business days.
What if my score is wrong?+
Contact listings@arlts.io.vn with your profile code and the specific qualification you believe is mis-scored, with supporting documentation. Reviewed within 5 business days.
Is IELTS General Training accepted?+
Yes. The minimum threshold is 6.5 for both Academic and General. Academic scores slightly higher at equivalent bands since it measures university-level English.
Can I update my profile after it's live?+
Yes. Email listings@arlts.io.vn with your teacher code and the changes. Updates processed within 3 business days. Score changes require documentation.
Does a lower score mean a worse teacher?+
No. The ARLTS score measures formal academic credentials — degrees, certifications, proficiency tests, and years of experience. It does not measure teaching quality, personality, student rapport, or lesson effectiveness. A teacher with a score of 9 and strong student outcomes may be a better fit for you than a teacher with a score of 18 whose style doesn't suit your learning needs. Use the score as a starting point for filtering. Read the full profile, request a trial lesson, and decide from there.
Why consider a newly listed teacher?+
Newly listed teachers are often highly motivated, offer competitive rates, and actively seek feedback. A recently qualified CELTA teacher may bring more current methodology than someone who trained 15 years ago. New teachers on ARLTS still meet the minimum proficiency threshold — fewer years logged, not fewer skills. You can filter by "Newest listing" in the search to find them, or look for the New badge on cards.

1. What ARLTS is
ARLTS is a directory service. It lists English teachers in HCMC ranked by a transparent point framework. ARLTS is not a teaching agency, tutoring platform, or marketplace. We do not broker, supervise, or take responsibility for any arrangement between a teacher and a student.
2. Qualification rankings and scoring
ARLTS scores are calculated from information submitted by teachers. We do not independently verify any qualification, certificate, test score, or experience claim. A teacher's ARLTS score reflects what they have reported, nothing more. Where a teacher submits documentary evidence (scanned certificates, official transcripts), we will note this on their profile — this does not constitute verification by ARLTS.
3. Disputing a score
A listed teacher may request a score review at any time by contacting listings@arlts.io.vn with supporting documentation. Score changes take effect within 5 business days. If you believe a teacher's qualifications are fraudulent, contact report@arlts.io.vn with concrete evidence. ARLTS will review and, where evidence is sufficient, remove or amend the listing.
4. Teacher listing fees and refunds
Teacher listings are 50,000₫ per calendar month, payable in advance. Fees are non-refundable once a listing is active. If ARLTS removes a listing due to a verified fraud report, no refund is issued. If ARLTS removes a listing in error, a pro-rated refund will be provided.
5. Student accounts
Student accounts are free. ARLTS makes no warranties about the quality, suitability, or availability of any listed teacher. Students contact teachers directly and are solely responsible for any arrangements, payments, or outcomes that result.
Student accounts may in future provide access to academy features including saved teachers, lesson history, and progress tracking. These features, when available, will be subject to updated terms communicated at that time.
6. AI-assisted credential review
ARLTS uses artificial intelligence tools to assist in reviewing documentary evidence submitted by teachers. This process is designed to identify documents that are inconsistent with known issuer formatting, contain implausible dates or details, or appear to have been altered. AI-assisted review is an additional check — it does not constitute independent verification of a qualification's authenticity, and ARLTS makes no guarantee that AI review will detect all fraudulent documents.
Where a document has been reviewed by AI, this may be noted on the teacher's profile. The result of AI review does not override the general disclaimer that qualifications are self-reported. Students and institutions relying on a teacher's credentials should conduct their own due diligence.
7. Limitation of liability
ARLTS is not responsible for the quality of teaching, the accuracy of qualification claims, or any disputes between teachers and students. To the maximum extent permitted by Vietnamese law, ARLTS's total liability shall not exceed the monthly listing fee paid in the month the claim arose.
8. Changes to these terms
ARLTS may update these terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email at least 14 days in advance.
